What I do

Coaching and training consultancy

Here’s what I offer

Life coaching

Could some life coaching help you to take the next step in life? Perhaps you’ve had a major change in your personal life? Or perhaps things have remained the same and you feel like you want to make some changes? I can work with you one-to-one to help you generate effective solutions to the challenges you are facing, or to help you make the changes you want to make going forward.

Executive coaching

Perhaps you are contemplating a career change, or have been thrown in at the deep end with a new management role or an expanded portfolio with additional responsibilities? As an executive life coach and mentor, I work with experienced leaders, newly appointed managers, and those who are keen to pursue a career in leadership and management.

Awaydays

Does your team or organisation have an awayday coming up where you could benefit from an external, confident, and inclusive facilitator? I facilitate awaydays for teams or organisations of various sizes, and can focus on the issues that matter most to you.

Writing/funding workshops

Could your group or department benefit from a writing workshop covering writing for publication or for funders? Perhaps you are interested in learning more about academic publishing, or about writing for a policy audience, or about securing funding? I deliver writing and publishing workshops which can run over one, two, or three days.

What OUR clients are saying

“Knowledgeable and professional”

“… extremely knowledgeable and professional to work with. They were responsive to our brief and adaptable in response to our needs. I would absolutely work with them again and would recommend them to others looking to develop their knowledge and expertise around equalities-related issues”.

Feedback from a Local Government Association awayday facilitated by Peter

“The impact was astounding”

“… the impact was astounding – the next day I sat down and drafted all of my sections within the timescale I had determined – even taking regular breaks. I don’t think there was anything that would have improved the sessions – you created a really safe environment and it was really empowering to feel heard.”.

“A much clearer sense of who I am”

… it was absolutely right for me to change direction, even if it means a temporary step back. This revelation has given me much more confidence in my decision as well as in my new focus and is helping me to make future plans with more confidence … I realised that I had a much clearer sense of who I am and what I do than I ever had before. That wasn’t the case before our six sessions. So overall, a massive thanks and I hope you can have such a big impact on all future people you coach.

About me

I am a researcher, academic, as well as an Executive Coach and Life Coach. I am a Professor whose work focuses on social inequality and I have been an academic for twenty years. Most of my academic work is focused on research (including writing, applying for funding, linking research to policy and practice) and supervising doctoral work.

As part of this, I have worked with a range of people from different backgrounds including children, young people, refugees, social workers, youth workers, researchers, voluntary sector employers and managers, civil servants and politicians. I have completed research for numerous bodies such as the Scottish Government, ESRC, AHRC, European Commission and the Greater London Authority.

Through my academic work, I have also gained insights into the complexities of working in large organisations, the challenges of managing increasing workloads and the stress that this all creates. I have had many times when I have struggled to find balance and regularly became over-committed leading to periods of self-doubt and ‘burnout’. My interest in coaching developed through being coached twice as part of my academic role and through 360 feedback where my coaching and mentoring skills received the strongest scores. My coach suggested I complete a Coaching Certificate; I followed her advice and completed this in early 2020. Following this, I qualified as a Time to Think coach in 2024.
